Why Chose Alamance Pediatric Dentistry?

Establishment of a Pediatric Dental Home:

At Alamance Pediatric Dentistry, your child and your family are welcomed with kindness, patience and understanding. As trusted pediatric dentists in Burlington, NC, Doctors Grooms, Ricker and Woody provide gentle, specialized care for infants, children, teenagers and special needs patients of all ages.

Not all “kids’ dentists” receive the same training. Doctors Grooms, Ricker and Woody have all completed additional years of education in pediatric dentistry residencies after graduation from dental school. All three pediatric dentists at our practice are Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. This means that they all have advanced expertise in child growth and development, behavior guidance techniques, preventative dentistry and care for patients with more complicated medical, emotional, developmental and physical needs. When you visit our office in Burlington, your child is treated by specialists dedicated entirely to pediatric and special needs patient oral healthcare.

At Alamance Pediatric Dentistry, our front desk and clinical teams have decades of combined experience to assist your family in all phases of your visits to our office. These ladies are all kid-friendly people who want the best care for your child and deliver it in a professional manner.

A calming kid-friendly environment:

Inspired by tropical vacation adventures, our office is bright and cheerful. The walls are covered with colorful murals and décor that can help children to feel more relaxed and curious instead of nervous. Many families tell us that our office doesn’t feel like a dental practice at all. It feels like a playful space where children are welcomed, understood and given excellent and accurate dental care.

Open Door Policy:

As a parent or guardian, you act as an essential part of your child’s dental experience at our office. One parent is invited to accompany each child during dental visits in our clinic. You are there to provide comfort to your child. Young children often cry a lot during the first couple of visits and this is normal and age appropriate behavior as they do not like people to be in their personal space.

As your child ages, we like for you to allow your child to attend appointments in our clinic with you waiting in our lobby. This situation allows us to form a more concrete relationship with your child and can help further their independence for future situations in life.

We offer transparency in our suggestions, treatment planning and homecare recommendations for your child. We value open communication and teamwork so that you will always know why we recommend the care that we do for your child.

Same day appointments:

We will do our best to work your child into the clinical schedule quickly to address immediate oral healthcare concerns, oftentimes on the same day you call the office. We schedule these consultation appointments within the daily appointment schedule so you don’t have to wait in the lobby for multiple hours to see a pediatric dentist near you.

Compassionate Emergency Care

Toothaches, traumatic dental injuries and tooth infections can be stressful and painful to children. If your child is experiencing a pediatric dental emergency in Burlington, call the office phone number and select the emergency line option. Our pediatric dental specialist will call you back in a timely manner to answer your dental questions and address your concerns.

Our goal is to provide guidance on how to treat emergency situations and recommend immediate treatments to help your child. In cases of severe dental trauma, you might be instructed to seek care at an emergency room first before coming to our office.

Our emergency phone line is available up to 9:00 pm at night. Any dental emergency after 9:00 pm will need to go to an emergency room for an evaluation.

Sedation Options for your child

Your child’s physical safety and emotional well-being are always considered during the formulation of a treatment plan to help the child’s oral health.

  1. We offer nitrous oxide/oxygen (a.k.a. laughing gas) for anxious patients with limited teeth restorative needs. This can help most patients feel less anxious during appointments in which dental work such as fillings, crowns or extractions may be needed.

  2. We offer teeth restorative services at different surgery centers for patients to use general anesthesia. This option is good for patients who have multiple teeth with cavities and require extensive care taking up multiple hours in the dental chair and may also have difficulty sitting in the dental chair for multiple appointments to have all dental work completed.

The behavior pattern that we witness the most is that your child’s behavior and tolerance of us is satisfactory for the first dental work appointment, yet as the number of in-office appointments increases, the patient becomes less cooperative because she or he knows what to expect when having dental work completed in the dental chair.

The treatment option of general anesthesia can be the more compassionate way to reestablish a good baseline oral health situation in the shortest amount of time while keeping our office a happy place for your child’s future visits.
